BigCommerce design service now in NZ

in The blog / by Simon Owen, design director
October 8, 2013

Did you know that Envisage offers a fully featured eCommerce design service?

Early last year we created an eCommerce design division called Internet Stores New Zealand (iSNZ). Partnering with programmer George Shaw, design director Simon Owen is now designing robust and feature-rich online stores every day.

Our platform of choice is Bigcommerce. In fact, we’re so good with it the creators of Bigcommerce have named us ‘New Zealand’s Bigcommerce design partner’. We’re pretty chuffed about that.

Bigcommerce makes it easy to sell online. iSNZ makes your store look appealing and function beautifully.

iSNZ know Bigcommerce inside out and no stone is unturned when it comes to maximising the extensive features Bigcommerce offer to help you sell more.  We have designed over 16 successful stores and our client list is growing fast.

As a web professional, I’ve worked with a lot of e-commerce platforms to help my customers sell online. Bigcommerce is the one I recommend most, thanks to their ease of use, powerful features and excellent customer support.

Sensational WordPress web design 2013

in The blog / by Simon Owen, design director
June 21, 2013

Did you know that Envisage Design are now one of the leading studios in New Zealand who specialise in developing WordPress websites?

As a fulltime freelancer who has been designing for over 20 years now, I know a thing or to about the Design Process. Yawn you might, but it is this process that allows me to spin out unique and commercially relevant new sites day after day. And what platform do I predominately use? You got it, WordPress!

I freelance design sites every day with WordPress in mind. Konwing WordPress inside out allows me to design templates (I like to call them ‘skins’) completely offline in my application of choice, seeking client comments and approval before construcing the sites proper in an online environment. Envisage has a truck-load of tips and tricks for designing and implemention into WordPress. That’s why each and every project my clients’ and I work on is an absolute joy.

2013 has seen WordPress come of age and with new developments on the way. Envisage are pleased to have backed this free and open source CMS as a proven and industry-standard design solution.

New MacBook Air passes the studio test

in The blog / by Simon Owen, design director
December 20, 2012

Our busy design studio has been using the new 2012 MacBook Air ever since Apple refreshed it’s laptop line up back in July this year. Read on to discover our opinion on how our new MBA compares, and most importantly performs, in a professional design studio environment.

Weighing it up

Our studio desperately needed a new laptop to replace a 15″ MacBook Pro which fried it’s logic board back in May. What to do – grab a replacement straight away or sit tight and wait 2 months for the hotly anticipated MBP WWDC product release? We decided to wait out a purchase to see what goodies Apple would reveal…

Admittedly, we were a little underwhelmed when we saw the 2012 Retina Pro. It seemed that Apple had created a sophisticated device that had all the brawn but not much brains. Envisage was looking for a replacement laptop that had to do a number of things and the new retina model did not tick enough boxes. Strange really, as the MBP range was always a ‘no brainer’ model for a design studio environment.

A bit of history

Envisage first began using Apple laptops back in 1994. In fact, our very first studio asset was a mono screen’Duo’ laptop that we docked with a 21″ CRTV screen, so outrageously huge that it could have stopped a semi. We took a break from laptops while our studio grew, harnessing Apple’s desktop computing power. Since 2004 we have been through three 15″ MacBook Pros. They grew old, struggling under constant OSX updates and simply died.

A new dawn

It’s near-on 2013. Our studio is becoming more nimble in it’s approach to creative production. We now travel to client locations with our studio under our arm – literally.  We want instant on. We want lightweight power. We want speed and precision.

We chose the new 2012 MacBook Air with a full custom spec; maxed out RAM, fasted logic board available.

Can it run CS6 – yes it can!

Are we happy – yes we are!

We love our new Macbook Air.

The new Envisage Design website

Our ethos distilled

We’re thrilled to release the next version of our company website. This is our 5th design make-over since 1998 and we feel is by far the best result yet.

Envisage have worked hard to build a site that truly reflects and communicates our unique design ethos. We hope you like it.

Fully responsive design

This is a responsive web design, meaning it’s able to adapt its layout to the screen size of various devices line tablets and smartphones (ttry resizing the screen and see for yourself). All of the portfolio images in this site are touch enabled and hardware accelerated resulting in a super-sleek effect on all mobile devices.
